HELLO SCOTIA!
In the first 10 years, Eel River Brewing Company’s beer production increased 10-fold. So in 2007, ERB moved its brewing facilities up the river to Scotia, CA to accommodate the increasing popularity of their organic beer.
Established as a logging town in the 1880’s, Scotia was entirely owned and operated by Pacific Lumber Company and in 1887 Mill A was built. One hundred and twenty years later, Pacific Lumber Company filed for bankruptcy. In 2007, Eel River Brewing Company took advantage of the empty space left by the defunct redwood mill and moved their brewing facilities into Mill A, where they currently brew their beer. While Eel River Brewing shares the old mill with other tenants, at 200,000 thousand square feet, there is still plenty of room for expansion.
The town of Scotia is 100% powered by a bio-mass power plant. Because of this, Eel River Brewing Company is proudly not only the first certified organic brewery in the United States, but the first brewery in the United States to run on bio-mass as well! By running on renewable energy, Eel River Brewing Company further makes the commitment to sustainability. For more on ERB’s commitment to sustainability and to learn what bio-mass is click here!
