Scotia - Bio Mass Fueled Organic Brewery
Hello SCOTIA! Organic Beer, and plenty of it!
2007 saw the second Eel River Brewing location open! Like the first facility in Fortuna, the new one is also close to the river (just a few miles upstream) and it's also on the site of a former lumber mill. Actually the new brewery takes up only a fraction of the Pacific Lumber's company's gigantic Mill A in Scotia. The mill, having been closed down by PALCO, is huge. The Eel River Brewing Company is just one of a number of tenants located in the old mill. The brewing capacity is up, and according to our customers, so is the quality! That's because better brewing and bottling equipment make even better organic beer!
January 19, 2008 was the date for the Grand Opening Party at the Scotia Location of the Eel River Brewing Company. What an experience, partying to a live jazz band in an old growth redwood mill-turned-brewery. Plenty of friends, plenty of great food and plenty of organic beer (we drained six kegs at the party)! Favorites at the party were our Raven's Eye Imperial Stout and our Climax California Classic Lager.
The volume of organic beer we can produce has been doubled with the Scotia operation, and will continue to increase. Our new brewing capacity is about 8,000 barrels or 248,000 gallons per year. That's with five fermenters, brewing five different beers at a time. In 2008 we'll be adding two more fermenters to bring our capacity to about 12,000 barrels a year. We have growing room in Scotia as well, with space to increase our brewing capacity to 20,000 barrels a year in the future.
Our Scotia bottling facility now rolls out 500 cases of 12 ounce bottles a day. That number is also expected to double in 2008 with the addition of a night bottling shift. That means more jobs and more organic beer!
